I’m all for freedom of choice and deciding what is or isn’t put in your own body, but when it comes to something like refusing to get vaccinated against COVID19, then anti-vaxxers should stay the hell away from hospitals and putting hospital staff at risk when their self-destructive choices leave them gasping for air.

Frustrated Melbourne GP Mukesh Haikerwal tells anti-vaxxers to ‘get a life’

Double-jabbed Angliss Hospital nurse Gillian Dempsey died after a battle with Covid this week.

The mother-of-three died in the ICU at Box Hill Hospital and is understood to have caught the illness while at work.

When Today host David Campbell asked whether the tragedy would be used by anti-vaxxers to challenge vaccine efficacy, the furious GP delivered a scathing message.

‘I think get a life. Vaccines are safe. Without the vaccine, the hospitals will be overflowing,’ he said.

Is there one political party in Australia that relies on anti-vaxxers / reality deniers for votes like the Republicans
do here in the USA?

In my news reader this morning was this: Televangelist Marcus Lamb, the founder of the conservative Christian
Daystar Television Network, which repeatedly promoted anti-vaccine
messages, died Tuesday after contracting COVID-19. He was 64.

Back in August four Republican radio announcers that heavily criticized the vaccines died from Covid. Two here in
Tennessee and two in Florida. Does Australia have radio and TV personalities that do the same as those four did to
their elective ignorant audiences?

I think anti-vaxxers are often the same group as those who deny humans are causing rapid global warming.

As long as I keep my mask on and keep my hands clean and safe distance then I don’t need a covid vaccines.
I have been vaccinated for non covid viruses, such as flu and pneumonia.

Nurses in the province of Quebec object to the vaccine…These Quebec nurses are willing to sacrifice their careers to avoid getting COVID-19 shots | CBC News and would get fired before submitting to the vaccine.
Nurses win over the government and the Quebec government gives in to the health workers of Quebec…. Vaccines won’t be mandatory for existing Quebec health-care workers, only new hires | CTV News
Yes 5,000 nurses and many health care workers who have been caring for patients with Covid do not want the vaccine.

Its their right to not get the jab and I respect that, as long as they respect my rights.

And my rights include not allowing the unvaccinated  onto my property, that includes my place of business,

NSW ( state where I live ), you cant enter a department store like Kmart/Walmart a restaurant or any other non essential business without producing proof of vaccination and I have no problems with that.

Town where I live is 92% vaccinated do you really think we care about the 8% that isn’t? The only reason I care about the unvaccinated is when they get sick and go to hospita.l I am not happy that Medicare pays the bill, that’s my tax money supporting their life style choice.

I think this is a brilliant idea  Singapore will stop covering the medical bills of unvaccinated

@buddy215

> Does Australia have radio and TV personalities that do the same as those four did to their elective ignorant audiences?

I’m unsure, to be honest. I rarely listen to live radio or television (I despise advertisements), but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we did. Unless there have been news reports that I’ve missed, then not to my knowledge, though that’s not to say we don’t.

> I think anti-vaxxers are often the same group as those who deny humans are causing rapid global warming.

Indeed. I’d say they’re camped with conspiracy theorists who remain convinced that man is yet to travel through space, walk on the moon, or that the earth is flat. Total government fearing nutjobs.

@cryptodan

> The hospital staff worldwide have already been exposed to covid19 and worked tirelessly throughout the epidemic. There is no logic behind antivaccers putting them in harms way.

I disagree.

Doctors, nurses, and the like need to be in close proximity to people infected with all manner of diseases to care for them. Without the benefit of vaccination, anti-vaxxers are far more likely to get gravely sick when they inevitably finally do contract the virus, which causes them to need extended stays in Intensive Care (ICU) and deny other patients that need urgent ICU care due to any number of non-preventable occurrences.

When it’s a choice of two people needing urgent intensive care at the same time, one because of being involved in a motor vehicle accident (as just one of many examples) and another who could have mitigated the chance of needing ICU care had they just been vaccinated, then I’d give the bed and equipment needed to help someone survive a car accident in a heartbeat and leave the anti-vaxxer to gasp in the hallway until an ICU bed became available, and even then only until someone else needed it more.

When health professionals like doctors and nurses publicly urge and beg people to get vaccinated to reduce the chances of them putting an unnecessary strain on hospital resources, then they’re worth listening to. Why should health professionals be put at risk from exposure to a virus an anti-vaxxer had contracted when that person chose not to get vaccinated to help prevent the severity of the illness in the first place?

Also, whilst the vaccine can’t guarantee that people still won’t contract the virus, the point is that they won’t get as sick if they do, which logically means they’re less likely to need intensive care to survive. Anti-vaxxers can quickly overrun a strained hospital system when presenting with a virus like COVID19 through their own direct actions and stupid choices, and that’s a very real problem facing hospital systems today.

> Hell the staff in hospitals can get a deadly staph infection before getting covid19

Sure, on that, there is no argument. They can also contract diseases from an HIV infected patient, many forms of STDs, and countless other infection causes.

The difference is that no vaccine is available for all those other causes, and the world isn’t currently dealing with a pandemic resulting from them, so the need for immediate intensive care when patients present with those infections can often be very low to nil. Not so when talking about an unvaccinated person who has contracted and become seriously ill with the virus, hence the problem.

> Covid19 has a deathrate of less than 2% here in the United States per John’s Hopkins.

So because the death rates are low enough for you not to worry about, do you consider that an acceptable reason to put the health of others at risk?

If you were an anti-vaxxer and contracted the virus and needed immediate intensive care, would you be happy to have the ventilator keeping you alive removed from your throat and given to someone else who also needed intensive care for another reason which had been vaccinated? I think not, and that’s not a decision medical staff can make either.

Also, if you consider these USA vs AUS infection and death rates to be acceptable figures, then I certainly don’t. Even the numbers of Australian deaths are deplorable, in my opinion.

United States
Coronavirus Cases: 49,489,635
Deaths: 803,824

Australia
Coronavirus Cases: 211,654
Deaths: 2,011

> I got the vaccine and it nearly took my vision.

I’m genuinely happy to learn you recovered. But do keep in mind that for every person that does experience an adverse reaction, there are considerably more that experience no adverse effect at all, and I can include my own entire family and circle of friends in the latter count. It’s a risk vs benefit matter, and the benefits far outweigh the risks, quite possibly even for you, despite having had problems after getting the vaccine.

> I push for the mandates to be rescinded and to make it optional.

And I push for the exact opposite. If someone is unwilling or refuses to mitigate the risks by trying to prevent the serious health risks from contracting Covid, then they shouldn’t expect to be given someone else’s spot in an ICU when their decision inevitably bites them on the ass.

> But you all love submitting to big government and them taking over your lives.

LoL! What is it with you and this irrational fear you have of your elected government?

@ET_Explorer

> I am an anti-vaxer, because all the horror stories regarding covid vaccines.

Yet the stories of unvaccinated people dying when they contract covid don’t cause you any concern? Deaths and extended stays in hospitals far outweigh the numbers of people who might experience an adverse reaction from getting the vaccine, so your stance is curious, to say the least.

> As long as I keep my mask on and keep my hands clean and safe distance then I don’t need a covid vaccines.

You’re misinformed because, unfortunately, that’s not how it works. You could walk around all day with your hands shoved into your pockets and never remove them, yet you still risk being easily infected.

How is the COVID-19 disease transmitted?
“COVID-19 transmits when people breathe in air contaminated by droplets and small airborne particles containing the virus. The risk of breathing these in is highest when people are in close proximity, but they can be inhaled over longer distances, particularly indoors. Transmission can also occur if splashed or sprayed with contaminated fluids in the eyes, nose or mouth, and, rarely, via contaminated surfaces.”

> I have been vaccinated for non covid viruses, such as flu and pneumonia.

In fact, influenza (commonly called the flu) is also a very early covid variant. You should research the science from reliable sources rather than just believing the scaremongering campaigns spread around by the uneducated and fake news sites.

A couple of interesting reads, for sure. I’m not convinced, though. The majority of the world versus nurse conclusions in Canada? Think I’ll stick with the recommendations from the World Health Organisation and other scientific and medical professionals.

I’m in total agreement with that stance. Anti-Vaxxers or “anti-this-or-that” folks are quick to scream, yell, and protest about their personal rights and choices at the top of their lungs. Yet, when it comes to someone else’s personal rights to not have to deal with them in any way, then it’s a totally different story.

Example:
“You can’t refuse to employ me in your business. I have as much right to be employed as the next person!”

“You can’t refuse me entry to the store you own. I have as much right of entry as any other person!”

Hypocritical stances displayed at their very finest.

Wife and I had the Moderna vaccine 1 and 2 and only had a little bit of sleepiness from the 2 vaccination other than that all is well.

We are scheduled to get the Moderna booster next week.

We don’t know of anyone who received the vaccines and had any bad side effects.

Perhaps the fact you’re diabetic may have had something to do with your vaccine experience.

Yes I agree an anti vaxer has a right to a job like anyone else, as long as they meet certain conditions, like being experienced, good references and having any permits required that includes vaccination.

We don’t know of anyone who received the vaccines and had any bad side effects.

Well you know me, other than my arm being a little sore around the injection site I had no problems, soreness around the injection site is normal no matter what type of injection you get, Try a Tetanus shot and see how painful it can be.

Fun fact

Did you know America wining the war of  independence is partially due to George Washington insisting that US soldiers be vaccinated for small pox?
